The Kenyan marathoner channeled the 100million gift from President Uhuru Kenyatta to build the library in his former high school
Kenya’s celebrated double Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge has finally commissioned the iconic Eliud Kipchoge Library built at Kapsisiywa Secondary in Chesumei Sub County, Nandi County.
The athlete, together with Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, who represented outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta, opened the modern facility that is reported to have cost 85 million shillings during construction.

Back in 2019, the President had given Kipchoge a token of 100 million shillings following his record breaking exploits in Vienna where the Kenyan athlete became the first man in history to complete a marathon in under 2 hours as he clocked 1:59.40s in the race that took place in Austria in October that year.
Kipchoge, who has confessed his love for reading in the past, then elected to use the Presidential gift to construct a library in his former school, Kapsisiywa.
“Eliud Kichoge Library whose construction works began one and half years ago is complete at a cost of Sh85million including a school gate, walkway and perimeter wall,” Magoha said.

“The remaining Sh15 million will be used in the construction of 10 classrooms, an administration block and extension of the perimeter wall. The facility has books worth one million and 30 computers. Internet will be installed by the end of the week,” said the CS.
Kipchoge took to Twitter to announce the development.
